Krishna Ras Leela

This remarkable handcrafted textile dates to the 1990s and reflects the refined decorative traditions historically associated with North Indian palace interiors.  The composition depicts a classical Krishna Raas Leela scene surrounded by peacocks, lush gardens, and celestial landscapes, inspired by the Rajput courtly aesthetics that flourished across Rajasthan. The textile is entirely handmade by highly skilled North Indian artisans using traditional embroidery and thread techniques preserved across generations.  It is worked with fine silk threads on an organic cotton base, creating delicate surface texture and rich tonal depth throughout the composition. Natural vegetable dyes were used instead of modern chemical dyes, a traditional process where pigments are extracted from plants, minerals, and organic materials such as indigo, madder root, turmeric, and pomegranate rind. These dyes create softer, more complex tones that age gracefully over time, giving the textile its distinctive warmth and authenticity. Such techniques require extensive manual skill and patience, and today they are practiced by only a limited number of artisans in Rajasthan who continue to preserve these historic methods.  As a genuine vintage piece, gentle aging and subtle wear are visible across the textile, enhancing its character and confirming its authenticity as a handmade decorative work rather than a modern reproduction.
